Parker Monhollon would have turned 10-years old July 26. She passed away two weeks ago after a battle with DIPG, a type of brain cancer.

People celebrated her life by wearing purple and releasing balloons behind Silver Lake Grade School.

Parker’s father, Daniel Monhollon, said he has his community to thank for an almost perfect day. He says their family spent the day at Parker’s memorial and ate at her favorite restaurant, Olive Garden.

“It’s hard to describe,” Monhollon said. “I feel like it’s an amazing family that just came in and took care of us. Without having the Silver Lake community with us going through Parker’s battle, we would’ve fallen apart. Everybody around us was always stepping up just to make sure we were okay.”

The community is continuing to rally around the family. The band Serrano Peppers is hosting a celebration of Parker’s life Saturday August 12th, at The Brownstone which will include a dinner, silent auction and raffles.
